Overview
Building wires are single-core, finely stranded copper conductors insulated in PVC for the fixed wiring that runs behind every wall, switchboard and distribution panel. They're the everyday wire used for lighting circuits, power points, distribution boards and appliance connections in homes, offices, shops and factories. Each conductor is built from soft-annealed flexible copper for easy routing through conduit and trunking, then jacketed in a flame-retardant PVC compound that resists heat, abrasion and ageing — keeping the installation safe for decades of service.

Specifications
Insulation grades — what the abbreviations mean
Building wires are offered in several PVC insulation grades, each balancing flame performance, smoke output and cost differently. The table below explains the common abbreviations and what each grade is best suited for.
Majestic Pump building wires are supplied as standard in FR, FRLS and ZHFR grades; HFFR, FR-LSH, FRLF and HRFR constructions are available as made-to-order variants for projects with specific fire-safety requirements.
Construction & test data by insulation grade
Pick a grade below to see how its construction differs and the fire-performance values it is tested against. FR, FRLS and ZHFR are stocked as standard; the rest are made to order.
FRLS and ZHFR wires share the same fire-test basis — they're checked for how much oxygen a flame needs to keep burning, how hot the cable can get before it's damaged, how much light a smoke plume blocks, and how much acid gas the smoke contains.
FRLF keeps the same flame-retardant base as FR but its compound is tuned to give off fewer dense fumes if it ever burns — useful inside enclosed panels and control rooms.
FR-LSH adds low-smoke, low-halogen performance on top of flame retardance — when it does burn, it gives off less smoke and less corrosive gas than standard PVC, while still standing up to abrasion and moisture.
HRFR trades a higher heat rating for the same flame-retardant base — the insulation can run continuously at up to 85°C, useful close to luminaires, boiler rooms and other warm enclosures.
HFFR (per IS 17048) is a halogen-free thermoplastic — if it burns, the smoke is near-clear, non-toxic and won't release the corrosive gases that halogenated PVC can, and the finished cable is also ozone resistant.

FAQ
What's the difference between FR, FRLS and ZHFR wires?
All three resist the spread of flame. FRLS additionally cuts down the smoke released during a fire for better visibility, while ZHFR goes a step further by avoiding halogen gases entirely, so the smoke produced is less corrosive and toxic. ZHFR is generally preferred for densely occupied or sensitive buildings.
What sizes and core colours are available?
The standard range covers 0.75 to 6 sq mm. Core colours include red, yellow, blue, green, black, grey, white and brown — other colours can be produced on request.
Can you supply HFFR, FR-LSH, FRLF or HRFR insulated wire?

What current rating should I use for sizing?
The table above gives reference current ratings for caged and concealed installation at standard ambient temperature. Actual de-rating depends on grouping, conduit fill and ambient conditions — consult a qualified electrician for final circuit design.
